The Brixton Pound – B£

British town Brixton has adopted its own currency. Here is how New York Times explains: “… issuing points set up around the neighborhood exchange pounds sterling for Brixton pounds (B£). You can ask for B£s in your change and then use them at some 120 Brixton businesses now accepting and trading in B£ notes. Brixton banks or issuing points will also make an even exchange of B£s for pounds sterling at any time.”

This interesting project aims to support the local commerce, ensuring the amount of money spent in Brixton stays in Brixton.
