Le Havre, one of the busiest ports of Northern France, was once synonymous of greyness and industrial gloominess. And this may be changing. Recently the city re-qualified the port area constructing, along with a hundred-meter tower and exhibition spaces, a 29 million$ all-white aquatic centre by Mr. Jean Nouvel.
Inspired by a Roman bath, Les Bains des Docks features hot and cold baths, hydro-massage pools, saunas, Turkish baths, fountains, sprays, rain pools and even a dry cardio-fitness area. The usual problem of echoing noise in the public pools has been reduced thanks to fabric-stretched ceilings with varying heights. Well ok, it’s still a public pool.
Next time you’re near the area, visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts André Malraux, second only to Musée d’Orsay for its impressionist collection then enjoy Les Bains des Docks.
